Caldecote Youth Under 14’s Vs Caldecote Youth Under 15’s

574_7496The first half of this game was very even, both teams had few chances, but should have capitalised on the opportunities they had. Jack Boyd was doing what he does, making runs, causing the under 14’s trouble, but with ‘the spine’ of the team, Lex, Jack W, Joe and Max all starting sub. The under 15’s made it very hard for themselves in the first half, gifting chances that were begging to be smashed top corner, sadly for the under 14’s they either went narrowly wide or they made Luke Davey work. The second half saw the first subs of the game, Jack W was playing out of position in the middle of Mid field, Joe was on the left and Lex at preferred centre back, Oh and Max upfront. It didn’t take long for the subs to make an impact, within 2 minutes, the long throw worked and Max flicked it past the under 14’s keeper who had a cracking game. The Under 15’s made some more subs, and Kieran Clayson went in goal, after creating so many chances out on pitch, Crawley was playing as Crawley does, playing the long ball into the centre and up the wings. Kieran didn’t have much to do second half and Skinner even came up for corners. We eventually managed to tear the Captains band from Daryl and gave it back to its rightful owner Max, who doubled the lead after 6 minutes in the second half. The Under 15’s were starting to run away with it and started playing free flowing football; some managers call it ‘sexy’ football. The game finished 4 0 with Lex and ……. Scoring. The game then went to penalties, and after a dodgy assistant ref, some missed penalties (Ben C) and some comical ones, the shoot out came down to a draw, it came down to the two Managers, after some taunts from the under 15’s Goal keeper (now back to Luke Davey) Max Miller was happy to send it home, all the pressure was on Ben Jackson, he hit it high and straight, the keeper made a simple save, yes Ben, it was all your fault we lost the shoot out!. And the Under 14’s version ……… !This was an entertaining game played in just the right spirit. The U14's started very strongly, determined that they were not going to be a push over. Both teams challenged strongly and fairly but in the early minutes it
looked like the U14's had the greatest determination. They fought hard in the first half, with the wind behind them, and came to the break justifiably all-square at 0-0. Max Cooper who had been rested for the first half came on at half time for the U15's, and within the first two minutes stole in behind the U14's defence to slot the ball inside the post for the U15's first. It was at this point that the effort expended in the first half began to tell. Despite beginning to look a little weary the boys continued to work extremely hard, but the U15's had paced themselves better, and with fresh legs to bring on they began to get the upper hand. The U15's finished 4-0 winners, but the U14's can be proud of a spirited performance. The game was then rounded off with a penalty shoot out, with every player getting a chance to take a penalty. When this finished with a tie the managers were asked to step up for the decider. Max converted his, and as Ben did not, the U14's celebrated as the winners of this mini competition. Congratulations to all participants,
Players, Referees, Linesmen and Supporters.
