Match report from :

April 6th - called due to weather

Caldecote 0 – Wilstead Harriers 10

Not a good week for the under 9,s, having not had a  match for the last three weeks, the boys took a a bit of a thrashing. Started off slow, the boys not really prepared for the speed of the Harriers, which is never a good start and it just went downhill form there, by half time we were three nil down. Harriers came back even stronger in the second half and the boys literally gave up, they lost their shape and although Jacob made some great saves they conceded another seven goals making the final score 10 nil. Must put more effort in next week. Man of the match Jack Swales.

Bedford FC Juniors ‘C’ 4 – Caldecote 1

Playing away to Bedford FC was always going to be a tough game, however the pre-game talk seemed to give the boys some confidence and Caldecote came out fighting.  The first 25 minutes were fairly evenly matched, alot of midfield play with breaks for both teams.  15 minutes in saw Ben pass a well weighted ball into the Bedford area where Vinnie pounced and scored the first goal.  The rest of the first half was much the same with both teams trying to gain the upper hand. Second half kicked off with a much improved Bedford team turning out, their half time talk obviously made a difference as they were all over the Caldecote defence, making surging runs into our area and making life difficult for Ewan and Jack R.  Zach had a couple of chances with his trademark free kicks and Jake, Ben, Owen and Jack S made some great runs into the Bedford area and made their keeper work hard, unfortunately with no result.  Bedford made our defence work very hard and despite some fantastic saves by Jacob and some great defending by Zach, Farrell, Jack R and Ewan, they managed to score 4 great goals and put the game out of reach for us. Another brilliant performance by the lads, each week we are getting stronger, no man of the match this week as we all agreed that to single out one player would have been unfair. Team:  Jacob, Jack R, Ewan, Zach, Vinnie, Jake, Ben, Subs; Jack S, Farrell, Owen.

Feb 24th

Sandy Colts 1 - Caldecote Under 4

Sandy at home was always going to be challenge for Caldecote. This team has improved throughout the season. Caldecote started well with a lot of possession in the first 10 minutes. Zach and Vinny working hard in midfield gave the defense cover at the same time as providing good links with Ben and Jake upfront. Several chances came and went but the team kept plugging away. Jacob looked assured in goal with Ewan and Jack R providing defensive cover. Five minutes before the break Swales broke free after the ball was won in midfield and we took the lead after a good finish. Second half saw Sandy make a spirited fightback, but this did not last long as Caldecote went 2-0 up after a smart finish on the break by Ben. Subs Farrell, and Owen where introduced and they fitted into position without the team losing any shape. Continued pressure saw the Sandy defence give away a penalty that Zach put effortlessly away to make the game 3-0 and seal the points. Sandy to there credit simply would not give in and they continued to press on the break. Several corners eventually forced a mistake and Caldecote gave away a penalty that Jacob had no chance of saving taking the score to 3-1. For a couple of minutes it looked like Sandy where going to get back into the game before Ben set free by Zach made a charge at goal from the half way line. A smart shot was well saved by the Sandy keeper but Ben followed up to to score his second and Caldecote’s fourth. Caldecote went all out for a 5th with Jake, Vinny, Farrell and Jack S all going close but the Sandy defence held out. Game finished 4-1 to Caldecote. Team:  Jacob, Jack Rice, Ewan, Zach, Vinny, Jake, Ben, Subs Jack S Farrell, Owen. Man of the Match. Ben.

Feb 17th

Caldecote 2 - Mid Beds Tigers 4

The match started with Caldecote winning the toss and choosing for Beds Tigers to kick off.  From the start Beds Tigers were keen to score making quick runs into the Caldecote half, one of these runs resulted in some confusion in the Caldecote box where the Tigers capitalised by scoring their first goal.  Caldecote tried to push out but were caught again on the break by a quick run half way through the first half.  Despite the defence and Jacob's best efforts as goalie the Tigers were 2 up.  Late on in the first half Caldecote were awarded a free kick just outside the Tigers box, when for the second week running Zach scored the first for Caldecote making it 1-2 at half time.  The second half saw new signing Owen making his debut appearance. Caldecote come out fired up believing they could get on top of the game but 2 goals in quick succession by the Tigers put a dent in that belief, Caldecote were now playing for pride.  Jack R, Jack S, Jake, Vinnie and Ben tried their very hardest to push on and make the goal difference up.  Deep in the second half Tigers conceded a penalty by handballing in the area; Zach stepped up and scored a second for Caldecote.  That was pretty much it until the last minute of the game when Caldecote conceded a penalty; fortunately Tigers didn't punish Caldecote for the mistake. Caldecote gave a great performance which was not rewarded with the desired result.  Man of the match Zach. Team: Jacob, Jack R, Ewan, Vinnie, Jake, Jack S, Zach, Ben, Farrell and Owen.

Feb 10th

Harlington Juniors 7 – Caldecote 4

This was the third game this season between these teams and has Caldecote had already lost the first two games confidence was low. Caldecote started poorly and quickly went behind to an early deflection, heads dropped and a second goal came within minutes. All looked lost when Harlington scored a third with only 15 minutes gone. Suddenly against the run of play Caldecote got an opportunity to get back in the game when Zach was brought down in the area to win a penalty. Ben took it and missed pushing the ball wide. Harlington scored a fourth with five minutes to the break and then Caldecote started to play. A free kick was awarded just outside the box and Zach hit a thunderous shot into the top corner to make it 4-1 at the break. Caldecote started the second half on fire and quickly forced the issue with sustained pressure coming from the midfield with Rice running the show. Four quick goals ( two for each team ) came in minutes as each team went for broke. Ben and Vinny getting on the score sheet for the black and whites. Ben added another to bring the score to 6-4 before Harlington scored again to end any hopes of a fight back. End score 7-4. The whole team can be proud of the way we held in and fought to the end. The lesson learned here was we need to play like we can win from the start and believe in ourselves from the beginning. Man of the match Simpson (one hell of a free kick). Team, Jacob, Jack R, Ewan, Vinny, Jack S, Zach, Ben, Farrell.

Feb 3rd

Caldecote 4 Sandy Colts 2

Sandy started off well gaining a goal in the first ten minutes Jacob was unlucky and couldn't put a hand to it. Caldecote came back really strong and had several near misses, they just couldn't manage to knock one in but kept on shooting. With great persistence Jake Stanton got us two goal's within a couple of minutes taking us into a well deserved lead. The team were working really well together, then out of the blue Sandy scored from a corner taking it to two all. Caldecote would not be refused this crucial win and plugged on as Vinnie Skilton and Ben Atherton scored making the score 4 to 2 at full time. Well done boys, you played really well even if you all came off with frostbite. Not enough space to mention all but eight superstars on the pitch today. Best wishes to Farrell, hope you’re felling better soon.

Caldecote 10 – Clapham Colts 0

Game got off to a good start, boys looked really confident, Vinnie kicked the ball up the pitch to Jake who ran through and scored in the first four minutes, followed by another great pass from Ben which Jake again ran through and scored putting us 2 - 0 up within the first few minutes. Caldecote kept up the pace with a great run by Zach and a great shot at goal which slighty veered to the left but thanks to a great toe by Vinnie went straight to the back of the net giving us another goal. Great defending by Jack Rice and Ewan they didn't give Clapham a chance, every time they got the ball, they just took it straight off them again. The next goal was set up by a great pass from Zach to Ben resulting in our fourth goal. Second half started well with subs Jack Swales and Farrell coming on,  Caldecote carried on much the same with some fantastic passing by the boys and Jake Stanton went on to get his third goal giving him an hat trick.  Next was Vinnie to get his chance at getting in his second goal, he smashed it straight into the back of the net, the goalkeeper didn’t stand a chance. Next up for goal was Jack Swales with a fantastic effort bang on goal. Clapham kept their heads up and kept on plugging even though at this stage they were 7 nil down. Jacob hadn't had much to do up until now but Clapham made a few subs and they picked up a little with a couple of attempts on goal which Jacob saved. Game carried on much the same till the end with Ben Atherton getting another three goals putting the team at 10 nil at the final whistle, giving Ben a hat trick as well. It was a pleasure to watch the boys, not because they were winning but because they played fantastic football and they played as a team.  Man of the match was Jake Stanton. Well done boys keep it up.

16th Dec

Caldecote 1 - Harlington Juniors 2

This cup game was always going to be a real test for Caldecote after Harlington had beaten them only a few weeks ago in the League. The team knew this was the last game of the year and started with a lot of energy and passion. Possession in the first 15 minutes was fairly even with both teams making opportunities to score. Jacob was inspired in goal and Jack R, Ewan and Zach worked well as a unit to keep Harlington away from goal. Vinny and Swales worked hard in midfield and Ben ran his socks off up front to try and create the first goal of the game. Mid half subs Farrell and Jake came on for Jack R and S and integrated into play without any loss of shape. The rest of the half again was fairly even and Caldecote fought well to go into the break 0-0. Second half began as the first ended with both teams going for it from the start. Caldecote pushed on after putting Harlington under sustained pressure and where rewarded with a goal after 10 minutes of the second half. There was a real scramble in the box and the ball fell to Vinny who dispatched the ball into the back of the net. The Harlington team responded with wave after wave of attacks but Caldecote held off with the whole team fighting to keep them out. With 5 minutes to go Harlington continued to push and after a cross flew into the box it took a deflection to the forward who scored to make it 1-1. With only 1 minute to go and extra time looming Harlington broke with the last attack of the game, cruelly for Caldecote, Harlington managed to score and the team went out of the cup at the first attempt.  The team where heartbroken but could say they gave everything on the day. We will be stronger for this loss and I have every belief that we will continue in the new year to get better and play football the way it should be. Team:  Jacob, Jack Rice, Ewan, Zach, Jack Swales, Vinny, Ben, Subs Callum, Farrell, Jake. Man of the Match. Jake. Merry Christmas team look forward to seeing you in 2008.

9th Dec

Caldecote 0 – Flitwick Eagles B  6

Caldecote went into this match under strength and without substitutes due to illness of 3 key players. Weather conditions where awful but the match went on regardless. A good start by Flitwick meant that Caldecote needed to be on top of their game right from the beginning. Half way through the first half Flitwick was awarded a free kick from around 20 yards from goal. A wicked deflection saw the ball spin past Jacob in goal who could do nothing to stop the effort. Caldecote fought back well and almost equalised just before half time with Farrell going close with a late shot. Caldecote started the second half in upbeat mood. The weather was getting worse but they had the advantage of playing with the slope. It was very well contested until 10 minutes in when again Flitwick where awarded another free kick, the Flitwick number nine curled the ball around the wall and into the top corner with Jacob again left stranded on the line. After that the team fought on but had lost the spirit. Another 4 quick goals in 5 minutes left them with nothing to gain from the game. The result was not a fair reflection on the game and Caldecote will provide a better showing in the return fixture. Man of the match Jack Rice (outstanding performance at the back)

2nd Dec

Wootton Rangers 1 - Caldecote 4

Caldecote played against the wind and rain in the first half and didn’t take long to settle. With good defending by Ewan and Jack R assisted by Zach they linked well with Vinnie, Jake and Ben. 10 minutes in Vinnie rounded off a great ball by Ben to open the scoring for Caldecote. Five minutes later and against the run of play the ball broke loose and Wootton equalised. Caldecote continued to dominate the first half, all but a few attempts from Wootton with which Jacob pulled off a couple of great saves. Again good interplay from Caldecote saw Vinnie score his 2nd just before half time. At half time changes were made with Farrell and Jack Swales on for Ben and Jake. This half with the wind behind them, Caldecote pressed the Wootton defence, and there were a few rare breaks by Wootton, but these were dealt with decisively by Farrell, Ewan & Zach at the back. Some good passing between Zach, Vinnie and Jack S up front saw plenty of opportunities to add to the score. Zach broke from midfield and passed a great ball to Jack S finally who got the 3rd for Caldecote and with the game coming to a close Jacob pulled off a couple of fine saves when called upon.  In the last few minutes Jake broke free in the box and scored to make the final score 4 – 1 to Caldecote. All in all a very impressive team performance in adverse weather conditions, very well done boys, the players deciding at the end of the game that Vinnie was the Man of the Match. Team:  Zach. Jake, Jack R ©, Jacob, Ewan, Ben, Vinnie, Farrell and Jack S.

Caldecote 0 - Toddington Rovers 'B' 2

Toddington, currently topping the league, kicked off the game & attacked Caldecote for the 1st 10 mins as Caldecote struggled to clear the ball. Caldecote settled & defended well, Ewan, Callum & Zach led the way at the back & with a couple of great saves by Jacob in goal keep the score level. The half settled & Caldecote were able to break & put some pressure on the Toddington goal, good work by Zach, Jack Rice & Vinnie, resulting in a shot from Ben just going wide of the mark. Then, just before half time & against the run of play, Caldecote went a goal behind after a Toddington shot was blocked by Jacob but the rebound went straight to a Rovers player who put it in the net. The 2nd half begain with Jack Swales & Farrell substituting Ben & Callum.  Caldecote got right intot he game which mirrored the last 10 minutes of the 1 st half with both teams attacking then defending. Caldecote again had an unlucky break when a long range shot just beat Jacob & went into the corner of the net, 2 0 to Toddington. Caldecote tried to get back in the game with tireless running from Vinnie, Jack Rice, Zack, Farrell & Jack Swales with strong defensive work by Ewan. Despite the bitter cold & wind this was a great team performance against the table toppers, Zach Simpson was awarded the Man Of The Match, voted for by the Toddington manager. Team - Zach, Jack R, Ewan, Jacob, Ben (c), Callum, Vinnie, Farrell & Jack S.

11th Nov

Wilstead Harriers 6 - Caldecote 0

Caldecote youth started well in the match and looked the better half of the two teams for the first fifteen minutes.  Against the run of the game Wilstead scored 16 minutes in with a scrappy goal.  Caldecote quickly went two nil down with a super strike from the harriers, Royal in goal didn't stand a chance. The Caldecote boys put their heads down and the midfield started to get over run, three quick goals meant that Caldecote went into the break 5-0 down. Second half kicked off in the same fashion with Caldecote giving away another goal in the first minute making it 6-0.  Against all odds Caldecote then took control of the game and kept possession of the ball for the rest of the second half.  Too little too late for the Under 9's the game finished without a goal for the black and whites.

4th Nov

Caldecote 1 - Houghton Regis 3

Full squad this week,  starting the first half with Jack Rice, Zack Simpson, Jack Swales, Ben Atherton, Ewan King, Callem Skinner and Jacob Royle in goal. Caldecote were very slow to start and getting to grips with the first half - Houghton took no time in taking advantage of this, within 20 minutes they had a comfortable 2-0 lead. Then Caldecote showed signs of fighting back, digging in and having most of the possession in the last 5 minutes when a few chances were put through to the forwards that they were unlucky to finish. After half time Caldecote started with a few changes brining Jack Stanton, Farrell Miller and Vinnie Skilton on. Caldecote kept the pressure on in this second half using both defensive and attacking skills which left Houghton struggling to keep their game together. Another chance was created and although good game play by Houghton led to another goal in the 35th minute brining the score to 3-0. The boys still kept their heads up and kept focused on the game. Vinnie was brought down in the Houghton box which awarded Caldicote a penalty. Zack took a cracking strike and put the final score to 3-1. Houghton were a fair team to play, it was a cracking game to watch and vast improvement shown by Jacob Royle (goal keeper), Vinnie Skilton (striker) and Farrell Miller (mid-field). The rest of the lads showed their consistent skills with Ewan King (defence) winning man of the match.

Mid Beds Tigers 4 - Caldecote Youth 0

This week Caldecote travelled to Mid Beds Tigers and started very well against the top of the league team.  Caldecote were in control of the first half with some very strong play, the complete opposite of last week.  Every ball was challenged, every tackle was made with commitment and every run was made with the sole purpose of scoring a goal.  Against the run of play and resulting from a questionable decision by the referee, Mid Beds Tigers scored a goal but Caldecote did not let their heads drop and carried on forcing the play and keeping possession of the ball. Several decisions did not go our way and the opposition again scored. The second half again seemed to favour Mid Beds Tigers, Ben was brought down with a harsh tackle and was substituted. But, again, all through a difficult half, the Caldecote team kept their spirit and battled on despite everything. Great defending by Jack Rice, Ewan King and Zach Simpson, committed midfield play by Jake Stanton, Jack Swales and Ben Atherton, Jacob Royle was great in goal as always.  New boys Vinnie Skilton and Callum Skinner making their debut for the team played very well, I think they will be an asset in the games to come.

7th Oct

Caldecote 1 – Harlington Juniors 8

Caldecote’s third home game of the season saw Caldecote starting brightly with only 7 players, regardless they made Harlington defend deeply.  Jake Stanton, Ben Atherton and Jack Swales made some good runs onto the Harlington area but were unable to take advantage of the play.  Harlington made a few runs into the Caldecote area and the turning point of the game was an unfortunate incident which resulted in a cleared ball hitting the referee and coming back into the box where Harlington took full advantage and scored.  This was a crushing blow for Caldecote and Jacob Royle, the substitute keeper, who then conceded a further 3 goals in 10 minutes, including an own goal from a corner.  The first half was finished off with a great run by Zach Simpson who finished with a shot on goal from outside the box which looped over the Harlington keeper and into the top of the net. Second half was basically a repeat of the first; Caldecote could not get their heads up and gave Harlington far too much possession.  Caldecote did not close down on the Harlington runners and did not tackle effectively, Jack Rice and Ewan King made some decisive tackles to prevent further goals but in all a poor show as we know the team can do much better.

23rd Sept

Caldecote 0 – AFC Shillington 2

Caldecote’s second home game of the season saw Shillington starting brightly with Caldecote defending well.  Jake Stanton, Ben Atherton and Jack Swales made some good runs onto the Shillington area.  Joe Maundrell made a couple of great saves but Caldecote got caught defending deeply and were punished by Shillington with their first goal half way through the first half.  Caldecote kept their heads up and try as they might to get an equaliser they were caught on the break by another quick Shillington move that resulted in a second goal to the visitors, half time came with Caldecote 2 – 0 down. Second half started with Jacob Royle in goal, Caldecote started very brightly with Caldecote determined to get an equaliser.  Zach Simpson linked up with Farrell Miller and Ben Atherton time and time again and Caldecote were unlucky not to finish.  Jack Rice and Ewan King stood fast in defence clearing ball after ball, Shillington only having one shot on target in the second half. All in all a good game, I think the team learned a valuable lesson today.

16th Sept

Caldecote 4 – Leighton United ‘C’ 3

Talk about a game of 2 halves! Leighton started the game under brilliant sunshine and put early pressure on Caldecote’s defence, dealt well with by Zach, Ewan, Jack R and a couple of good saves from Joe in goal. Caldecote get into the game and start growing in confidence with some good passing. 1st attack involving good interplay with Zach & Ben, Jack S rounding the move off with the opening goal, 1-0 to Caldecote. Continued pressure on the Leighton defence with a shot from Jake going just wide. Then following a good clearance from Joe in the Caldecote goal Jack S scored his 2nd, 2-0 to Caldecote. Minutes later Jack S nearly got his 3rd putting his shot just over the crossbar. Caldecote looking in complete control in all areas scored their 3rd through a great strike from Ben from a clearance from Leighton. Jack R was replaced in defence by Farrell 5 minutes before the break. Caldecote scored their 4th with a great goal by Zach. Leighton came back at Caldecote just before the break with  Joe making a brilliant and brave save at the feet of the striker. Caldecote started the 2nd half brightly with Ben breaking through being denied by the keeper. Jack S was replaced by Jack R who was immediately in the action shooting just wide. Leighton started to get back into the game as Caldecote tired a little, good defending by Farrell, Ewan and Zach kept them at bay. Ben was substituted for Jacob, further pressure from Leighton resulted in a goal, 4-1. Zach was replaced by Jack S, more pressure from Leighton resulted in them getting a 2nd and 3rd. Further substitutions late on with Farrell being replaced by Zach and Ben on for Jack S, Caldecote managed to hold off some late pressure to end up 4-3 winners, well done boys 2 games 2 wins.

9th Sept

Under 9’s

Clapham Colts 0 - Caldecote 6

Caldecote start the match and look very comfortable. Possession is one sided and Caldecote make a string of chances within the first few minutes with Jake Stanton leading the line. Zach Simpson has the midfield under control and links up with Ben Atherton who scores the first goal after 5 mins. Continued pressure from Caldecote results in

another three goals in the first half, Jack Swales getting a great volley which gave the keeper no chance and Ben Atherton adding another two to seal a first half hatrick. Jack Swales and Jake Stanton have the Clapham defence in disarray. Joe Maundrell in Goal is untroubled and Ewan King and Jack Rice in defence are in complete control.

Second half substitutes are made as Swales and Stanton take a well deserved rest. Jacob Royal and Farrell Connor come on and quickly settle into the tempo set from the first half. Caldecote are again in complete control of possession and have the Clapham keeper very busy. Jack Rice and Zach Simpson dominate and have the game under control. Royal keeps the front line lead and creates another goal for Atherton who claims his fourth. Connor and King continue to keep the defence tight and Maundrell in goal saves comfortably from the few chances Clapham create. With a few minutes to go Simpson breaks through again and sets up Atherton to complete a 6-0 win.
