Caldecote 11 Memorial Park 3

Caldecote finished the season in style to send a big crowd home happy. As league runners up in their first season as an eleven a side team, Caldecote have been an impressive team capable of scoring quality goals aplenty and playing controlled attacking football, but at the same time being a team who can graft out results when required. Caldecote were a bit slow out of the blocks in today’s game allowing Memorial Park to take an early lead. The home side equalised soon after, and then went ahead only for the away side to level scores. Caldecote added two more goals to finish a fairly even first half 4 – 2.  Caldecote spent the most of the second half camped in Memorial’s half adding another seven goals to the total. The goalscorers were: Michael 4, Mathew 3, Daniel 2 and Laurence 2. Man of the match was Ross, who was at his battling best in midfield. Thank you to all the parents and supporters for their support during the season. Team: Patrick, Blake, Ieuan, Toby, Sam, Ross, Mathew, Daniel (Capt), Laurence, Simon, Michael and Liam.

Sundon Park Rangers 2 Caldecote 5

Caldecote secured at least a second place finish in the league with this win. In driving rain and high winds, Caldecote came up against a Sundon side who in the corresponding fixture conceded 14 goals. Sundon looked fired up for this one and it was the home side who took the lead. A defensive mix up allowed an attacker to slide the ball into the net. Sundon now were playing with confidence, they kept plenty of players behind the ball in an attempt to frustrate Caldecote. The first half finished 1-0. Caldecote came out chomping at the bit in the second and equalised with a storming run and finish from Blake. Liam scored his first goal for the club in 3 years, with an outstanding goal from the edge of the area. He set off on a lap of honour only to be caught by his ecstatic team mates who bundled him to the floor and jumped on him in celebration. Simon added 2 goals and Mathew added the fifth, both players showing real determination and quick feet to skip through some meaty challenges to add their goals. Another hard fought win in dreadful conditions and another win which underlines the team spirit of the Under 12’s, who never stop until the final whistle. Well done boys!

Man of the Match: Liam - £10 richer for that screamer!

Team: Patrick, Blake, Sam, Ieuan, Ross, Toby, Laurence, Daniel (Capt), Simon, Liam, Mathew and Michael.

Brickhill Wanderers 3 Caldecote 4

An absolute cracking game this one with both sides wanting the win and both sides going for the three points. It turned into a game of two halves; Brickhill scored the first only for Caldecote to go straight up the other end and score. Caldecote added three more goals to go 4 – 1 up. The goalscorers were Michael 2, Billy 1 and Laurence 1. Caldecote looked comfortable with their lead, with the defence snuffing out anything that Brickhill managed to throw at them. Patrick produced some fine saves to keep the Brickhill attackers at bay. Caldecote’s midfield and strikers were stringing together some great passes; some of the through balls were breathtaking. The second half was as nail biting as it was long. Brickhill clawed back two goals and went in search of the equaliser. Caldecote’s defence stood firm and withstood the pressure with plenty of players throwing themselves in front of the ball to prevent goalscoring opportunities or making last ditch tackles to frustrate the opposition. For the second week Caldecote have had to scrap hard for their victory and credit goes to Brickhill who pushed them all the way. Man of the Match: Laurence – An outstanding goal and outstanding all round play.

Team: Patrick, Sam, Ieuan, Blake, Toby, Ross, Daniel, Laurence, Mathew, Billy, Michael, Liam and Daniel Y.

Houghton Regis 2  Caldecote 3

A hard fought win for Caldecote against a Houghton Regis side which were much improved from the side beaten so convincingly earlier in the season. With the wind blowing in Houghton’s favour in the first half, Caldecote were forced to endure an aerial bombardment, with the home side trying to kick the ball over the defence at every opportunity. Having weathered the storm Caldecote started to create some great chances. Mathew scored, coolly finishing when one on one with the keeper. Caldecote then made four or five gilt edged chances to extend their lead but came up against a keeper on top form. A rather harsh penalty meant that the teams were level at half time. Caldecote were wind assisted for the second half and the majority of the play was in the home sides half. Daniel scored a goal of outstanding quality, cutting in from the left he hit an unstoppable shot which gave the keeper no chance from the most acute of angles. Blake, not to be outdone, added the third with his usual canter up the wing, he beat five players, turning them inside then out before passing the ball into the net wide of the keeper. Houghton added a second late on to make the final few minutes less comfortable than they should have been.

Man of the Match: Simon – gives his all to the cause.

Caldecote fell to their first defeat in eight games in a game against the now title favourites.  Strangely off form and not playing with their usual flair, a subdued Caldecote suffered their heaviest loss of the season. Lady luck was missing as were a number of the team and it would be easy to talk about ifs, buts and maybes and make excuses. Caldecote weren’t at the races today but hopefully it’s out of their system and they can focus on the four remaining games.

Heads up boys we are still in with a shout!

Caldecote 5 Clapham Colts 3

An extremely cold and strong wind made the playing conditions difficult but Caldecote adapted better and had the better of the first half. Scoring four goals from Billy, Michael and Mathew (2) and playing some lovely one touch passing with great movement, Caldecote were playing some of the best football they had played all season. But the warning signs were there when Clapham’s very quick striker beat the offside trap and scored. 4 – 1 at half time. Clapham then began to believe they might get something out of the game and added two further goals. Caldecote needed something special to put the game beyond Clapham’s reach and Yatesy provided it scoring his first goal for the club. With Caldecote on the attack, they forced a couple of corners, the ball bobbled around the penalty area and then out to the edge of the area where Yatesy was lurking, he produced a stunning volley that sped into the roof of the net like a missile. Caldecote now have eleven of their players who have scored this season. Mathew won man of the match for his great performance on the wing.

Memorial Park FC 1 Caldecote 9

With a number of players out, Caldecote were forced into a defensive reshuffle at left back, Simon stepped into the breach and had an outstanding game. The match was even for the first five minutes until Caldecote took the lead. Caldecote then dominated the remainder of the game. Mathew scored four, the last one a real peach. Michael ran through the defence and coolly beat the keeper, Blake got his goal with a cheeky inch perfect lob, Daniel scored with a powerful header which nearly burst the net and Billy netted with a sliding finish. Patrick, who has gone close to scoring on a number of occasions, finally broke his duck with a goal that beat all the other players on the field! Patrick is Caldecote’s goalkeeper; he hit a long up field ball which bounced once and went over the opposition keeper’s head and into the goal. Patrick was mobbed by his team mates in celebration. He now had the range and tried a couple of times more but didn’t add any more. Memorial Park to their credit kept battling and scored a consolation goal late on. Man of the match becomes more and more difficult each week – Sam won it with another dominant display in defence.

Caldecote 1 Barton Rovers 4 CUP GAME

A spirited display saw Caldecote come close to causing a giant killing upset against 2nd division opposition. Caldecote had the better of the first half and went ahead through Michael. Barton equalised and added another shortly before half time against the run of play. In the second half Caldecote were reduced to ten men and faced an uphill struggle. They gave as good as they got but couldn’t quite get the ball in the net. A couple of soft goals flattered the scoreline.

Caldecote 5 AFC Shillington 1

The under 12’s welcomed table topping Shillington to Caldecote for the first game of 2008. Caldecote looking to continue their unbeaten run to seven games and to gain revenge for losing the first game of the season, they did both. Caldecote started as they had left off 2007 by playing controlled attacking football and scoring excellent goals. The home side raced into a 4 nil lead with goals from Michael, Billy, Daniel and a well-taken penalty from Mathew after a foul on Billy. Caldecote were forced into an early change after Ieuan had to leave the field after feeling unwell. A quick reshuffle at the back, saw Laurence take over at centre back and he played as though he had played there all his life! The whole team played some excellent football and they threatened to run away with the game. In the second half Shillington shored up their defence with some changes and this kept Caldecote at bay and when they did get through, the keeper made some great saves. Billy added his second and the teams fifth with a lovely finish. Caldecote had restricted Shillington during the game to just a couple of shots on goal until the final couple of minutes when a strong run and shot rolled agonisingly into the far corner after Patrick got his finger tips to the ball but couldn’t quite turn it round the post. The man of the match was awarded to the whole team after this fantastic result.Team: Patrick, Sam, Toby, Ieuan, Blake, Mathew, Laurence, Simon, Liam, Billy, Michael, Daniel, Daniel Y, Ross and Connor.

Barton Rovers 1 Caldecote 8

In the last game before the Christmas break, Caldecote were aiming to stretch their unbeaten run to six games. This they did with their fifth straight win. Caldecote have become a really potent attacking force scoring 36 goals in their last 3 games, with goalscorers coming from all over the team. With the attacking players perhaps grabbing the headlines, the defensive players have gone about their work quietly and efficiently conceding just 2 goals in the same period. Caldecote played the game almost exclusively in the home teams half, who had their goalkeeper to thank for keeping the score down to just 8, he put in an exceptional performance making loads of saves, which on another day might have frustrated Caldecote. The goalscorers were Mathew 3, Michael 2, Daniel 1, Blake 1 and Ieuan with his now customary smack from outside the area. Man of the match was Simon who skills and vision add so much to the team. Special mention to Laurence who gave the manager cold feet by nicking his socks and to the newly named Yatesy!!  Thanks to Mrs P for the lovely cake at full time. Merry Christmas to all the boys, their families, friends, supporters and to everyone connected with the Club – Here’s to more of the same in the New Year.

Caldecote 14 Sundon Park Rangers 0

Playing in terrible conditions of cold, driving rain and very strong winds, Caldecote scored 14 goals for the second week running. Up against the side they had beaten so comprehensively last week in the cup, they started just as they had left off by pressurising the defence and converting their chances. The conditions could have been a leveller but seemed to make Caldecote more determined. They created chance after chance with some excellent play and some lovely balls through the defence. The goalscorers were Billy 4, Michael 3, Daniel 2, Connor 1, Simon 1, Mathew 1, Blake 1 and Laurence 1. There were also some great attempts to try and get Liam’s name on the scoresheet but it wasn’t to be. Daniel Y won the man of the match on his debut with a real battling performance in midfield. The Caldecote defence warrant a special mention for an excellent clean sheet – no more than you deserve boys! To their credit Sundon Park kept their heads up and kept trying to get a goal, but with Caldecote in this form they didn’t quite manage it, although they did hit a post but the rebound was cleared to safety. Well done to all the supporters who braved the elements – your support is very much appreciated.

Sundon Park Rangers 1 Caldecote 14                 League Cup Game

Another emphatic win for the under 12’s this week making an unbeaten November and three wins on the trot. Caldecote set the tone for the rest of the match by scoring within the first couple of minutes. Stroking the ball around in front of the Sundon defence eventually getting the ball wide and putting in quality balls to the danger area unlocked the defence on many occasions. Caldecote’s ability to run at the defence and also swap passes in crowded areas seemed to mesmerise the home defence & if it wasn’t for the Sundon keeper’s excellent saves the score would have been much more. Such was Caldecote’s dominance that Patrick didn’t have anything to do till he picked the ball out of his net for Sundon’s late consolation goal. With too many goals to describe the goalscorers were: Michael 5, Mathew 4, Blake 3, Simon 1 & Daniel 1. Man of the Match was Mathew who turned on the style down the wing and scored 4 great goals. The boys are playing some lovely football & setting themselves a very high standard – Keep it up!! Team: Patrick, Toby, Blake, Sam, Ieuan, Simon, Ross, Laurence, Liam, Daniel (capt), Mathew & Michael. Frustrated Supporter: Daniel Y – Debut next week!!

Caldecote 6 Houghton Regis 2

Caldecote continued their run of good form against a team one place below them in the league. The manager asked the team to continue where they left of last week and this they did brilliantly. In the bitterly cold wind, Caldecote made the first half totally one sided, the home keeper didn’t have one shot to save thanks to the attacking players and a very switched on defence. Racing into a 4 – 0 lead at half time, with goals from Billy, Michael (2) and Daniel, the game was over as a contest. In the second half Caldecote welcomed Simon onto the pitch for his debut, which he was unlucky not to crown with a goal. Caldecote continued to press and added two more goals, one a sublime chip over the keeper from Billy and a cool side foot finish from Laurence. Blake was unlucky not to score after running the whole of the pitch on several occasions only to see his shots saved by the keeper. The manager has to hold his hands up after tinkering with the formation in the latter stages of the game, which cost Caldecote a deserved clean sheet. Man of the match is becoming the hardest decision to make after another excellent TEAM performance. Blake was awarded the honour for an outstanding display at right back.

Clapham Colts 1 Caldecote 4

Another exceptional performance from Caldecote and another game when every player played their part for the team. Caldecote enjoy playing Clapham, the games are usually close and the team and management are friendly and welcoming. In very windy conditions the teams were closely matched, but it was Caldecote who created the better chances, coming close on several occasions. There were several goalmouth scrambles at both ends of the pitch, during one of these Clapham managed to knock the ball past the keeper. Caldecote continued to press and look for the equaliser, which came in another packed goalmouth, forced over the line by Billy. 1-1 halftime. Expecting the game to be as close in the second half as it was in the first, both supporters and management were pleasantly surprised to find Caldecote stepped up a gear and threatened to score with every attack. Billy added the teams and his second, with a lovely placed shot wide of the keeper. Michael scored latching on to a great through ball giving the keeper no chance and added the fourth with a lofted drive into the top right-hand corner. For the second week running the man of the match could have been won by any one of the players, but was given to Ross who had his best game so far and dominated the midfield.  Special mention to Daniel who was outstanding in an unfamiliar centre of defence role. Team: Patrick, Blake, Sam, Toby, Daniel, Connor, Liam, Laurence, Ross, Mathew, Billy and Michael.

Caldecote 4 Brickhill Wanderers 4

This game was a real thriller. Caldecote went a goal down a couple of minutes into the game and were playing catch up from then on. They worked extremely hard to level the score, this they did with a great header from Daniel from an inch perfect corner. Their hard work was undone when Caldecote conceded more or less straight away. Caldecote went further behind but rather than heads dropping, this acted as a catalyst for some great football. Daniel added a second, cutting in from the left to beat the keeper. Ieuan was unlucky with a shot (!) from the halfway line which hit the bar and was saved on the line. Brickhill must have thought that the game was won when they added a fourth, until they gave away a free kick about 10 yards outside the area. Laurence did what he does best and smacked the free kick into the top right of the goal – unstoppable! Brickhill now looked nervy and the pressure told when Michael burst through and the leading goalscorer made no mistake. All square with just a couple of minutes to go and the Ref blew for a trip inside the Caldecote penalty area. The massed ranks of supporters held their collective breath; a well-taken penalty low to the left was expertly saved and steered to safety by Patrick. Caldecote had 14 players worthy of man of the match but that save tipped it in Patrick’s favour, he won deserved praise from the opposition management and supporters. Team: Patrick, Toby, Sam, Ieuan, Blake, Ross, Laurence, Daniel, Lewis, Liam, Mathew, Billy (Capt), Michael and Connor.

Caldecote 3 Bedford Panthers 4

A close game and one which Caldecote deserved at least a share of the points. With only 11 players to call on again and some players playing out of position and in unfamiliar roles, Caldecote scored straight from the kick off, Michael running through the defence and coolly slotting home. Caldecote then had an unexplained nervy 10 mins where they allowed the panthers to score 3 quick goals. Regaining their composure, Caldecote then set about trying to level the scores but came across a panther’s keeper in top form. They created chance after chance and Billy added a second for Caldecote with a lovely shot after a great defence splitting ball from Liam. 2-3 Halftime. Caldecote continued to push after the break but the panther’s keeper continued his one-man heroic display. He was finally beaten by a well-taken penalty from Mathew, after the same player had been fouled inside the box. Both teams went for the winner and with Caldecote pressing and creating the better chances; they were hit with the ultimate sucker punch. Caldecote can hold their heads high after this display. Caldecote played the last 5 mins with 10 men after a worrying injury to top goalscorer Michael which needed an ambulance to be called – Michael has made a full recovery – thanks to all of the parents who helped.

Caldecote 1 -  Luton Borough Youth B 6                 CUP GAME

The scoreline suggests a one sided affair but the game was far from it. Playing a team 3 divisions higher in this cup game, Caldecote more than matched the opposition in the first half. ‘Boro took the lead midway through the first half but Caldecote had the perfect answer hitting back with another goal from in-form striker Michael. With the game evenly balanced it could of gone either way. Caldecote created some excellent chances to take the lead but couldn’t quite put the ball in the net. ‘Boro added a second as the home side pushed forward looking to add to their score. ‘Boro were a more physical side than Caldecote and this showed when they used their strength to muscle through the home defence in the second half. Keeper Patrick can consider himself unlucky to have conceded some of the goals as he bravely made several saves at the feet of the attackers (and having the marks to prove it!) only for the ball to rebound to another attacker. The under12’s are a resilient bunch and despite the score line and the bruises never allow their heads to drop and keep going right until the final whistle. Man of the match – Sam – had a great game in defence. Team: Patrick, Sam, Ieuan, Toby, Blake, Laurence, Daniel, Ross, Liam, Mathew, Michael (Capt), Lewis and Connor.

Caldecote 8 Barton Rovers 2

First home game and first win of the season for Caldecote and a fantastic team performance. With only 11 players to call on team selection was easy for the manager. Pushing Michael up front on his debut for the club, paid dividends for the home side. He was quite simply on fire, scoring 5 goals and could have had more. Caldecote enjoyed the majority of the play throughout the game, each player made a positive contribution to the result. The manager asked for the wide players to get out wide, cross balls into the danger area and have shots on goal, this they did to great effect. Ieuan slammed in a screamer from outside the area, not to be out done, Laurence added another bursting through the defence and hitting an unstoppable shot into the top left of the goal. Mathew also got on the score sheet when he converted a neat header from Daniel. Blake and Liam were unlucky both hitting the post. Patrick with not a lot to do made some important saves. Sam and Toby were their usual solid selves in defence and Ross in the holding midfield roll made some telling interventions. Well done! Team: Patrick, Sam, Ieuan, Toby, Blake (Capt), Liam, Ross, Mathew, Laurence, Michael and Daniel. Man of the match: Michael 5 Goals – 5 Star performance.

AFC Shillington 2 Caldecote 0

The start of the season at last for the U12’s after a 3-week wait. Their start to the match was as bright as the early morning sunshine. Taking the game to Shillington who were forced to defend for long periods of the match. Unfortunately Caldecote couldn’t make their dominance count, they were looking for the killer pass to unlock the defence but couldn’t find it, sometimes a shot would have been a better option (things to work on). Caldecote were unlucky to concede a goal against the run of play after a defensive mix up allowed an attacker to shoot at an empty net. 1-0 Half time.

Caldecote continued to have the better of the play when Shillington scored again with another goal, which had an element of good fortune, a clearance came back off a defender straight to a forward who squeezed the ball past the keeper. A lot of positives against a team who have been playing 11 aside for a year and have not had to wait weeks to start their games.

Man of the Match: Daniel – non-stop running box to box.

Team: Patrick, Toby, Ieuan, Sam, Blake, Connor, Ross, Daniel, Laurence, Mathew, Billy (Capt), Liam and Lewis.
